What this means in practice

Some of the product links and "Check Price on Amazon" buttons on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use my link or go directly to Amazon or the retailer's website.

Not every product I cover has an affiliate program, and not every link is an affiliate link. I include products because they're good, not because I get paid to mention them.

How it affects my recommendations

It doesn't. My recommendations are based on research, engineering judgment, and 30 years of IT experience. If a product has a real flaw, I say so. If a cheaper option does the job, I'll recommend the cheaper option even if it pays less commission.

The tools on this site calculate results based on your inputs. The math doesn't care about commissions. If a budget router is right for your home, the calculator will say so.
